# Witness

> See what is happening in the world right now. Witness maps photos and short videos from the people who are there, and shows how confident it is in each one.

Not scraped. Not aggregated. Captured by the people who were standing there.

## A map for the world. A feed for everything around it

Reports are geotagged, timestamped, and placed. Context, analysis, and discussion live in the feed beside them.

- **Pins are sized by confidence.** The more independent evidence behind a report, the larger its pin.
- **Reports are circles. Posts are squares.** Firsthand reports and commentary look different, even in a screenshot.
- **Numbers are groups of reports.** The ring around a group shows what kinds of reports are inside.
- **Related reports become a situation.** When reports describe the same thing, they are gathered under one label.

_App screens shown with example reports._

## How it works, who it pays, and why it exists

- [How it works](https://www.thewitnessapp.com/how-it-works): How a report earns its confidence. Capture, corroboration, confidence. And why reports and posts look different.
- [For reporters](https://www.thewitnessapp.com/reporters): Your footage stays yours. When a newsroom or an organization licenses what you captured, 70 percent goes to you.
- [The story](https://www.thewitnessapp.com/story): A border crossing closed and nobody knew why. Siret, November 2025. The gap that became the company.

## The same events, for the organizations that act on them

Every report on the map is also a record, with its confidence and provenance attached.

- [Newsrooms](https://www.thewitnessapp.com/newsrooms): Footage you can stand behind. Find footage from the people who were there, see the record behind it, and license it per use.
- [Data teams](https://www.thewitnessapp.com/data): Ground truth, structured. Geotagged, timestamped events with confidence and provenance, as JSON over an API.
